Victor Pasmore Glazed Murals

Glazed murals (1963)

Plate glass murals by Victor Pasmore

The two large abstract murals by Victor Pasmore create an added spatial quality to the Customer Service Centre of Newcastle's Civic Centre. Each mural is about 8.5m wide and 6m high and occupies the whole end wall of the wide, two-storey high room. They consist of 13 large sheets of polished plate glass, with the design cut into the reverse side and painted, giving a 3D quality of black on aquamarine. Victor Pasmore was a renowned abstract artist and had been an integral part of the development of the Fine Art Department at Kings’ College, now Newcastle University.
